Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian Economy.

It contributes 16% of the overall GDP and accounts for employment of approximately 52% of the Indian population. Rapid growth in agriculture is essential not only for self-reliance but also to earn valuable foreign exchange. The growth of the nation is deeply connected to the wellbeing of the farmer and the productivity of farming.
Water is a critical input into agriculture in nearly all its aspects having a determining effect on the eventual yield. Good seeds and fertilizers fail to achieve their full potential if plants are not optimally watered. Adequate availability of water is important for animal husbandry as well. The availability and demand for water resources in India show sizeable variations from one region to another. There is an inefficient and inequitable use of and distribution of water. Nearly 90% of the India population lives in areas with some form of water stress or food production deficit. Ground water has been relatively abundant in most parts of India. However, in some regions, it is becoming one of the most serious resource issues.
Capacity Building comprises of activities which result in transfer of knowledge, skills and attitude from one person to another or from one group to another. For Women farmers, an objective to provide information enhance the capabilities of the women producers to ensure food security, enhance household incomes and improve their collective bargaining power.There is requirement for continuous efforts to provide training to women producers to build their capacity to enhance livelihood and have quality of life.
